This year Holy Family teamed up with the YMCA to offer students in grades 6th-8th the opportunity to play basketball during the January to March winter season. What better way to spend rainy Saturdays than cheering your children on from the bleachers while watching them make a break away move down the court to take a shot on the basket?

I was honored to share coaching duties with several other willing parents.  From that came to birth an extraordinary collection of shared knowledge and willingness to learn. In weekly practices and games HFS players had the opportunity to acquire and practice critical basketball skills while also learning how to work together successfully as a team.

I was continually lifted in spirit as I watched this process of both parent and child taking equal participation in learning not just how to play but also relate to each other. The synergy created was phenomenal and I left the season with a warm-hearted reminder of a quote from the amazing Dr Seuss.

“Children want the same things we want. To laugh, to be challenged, to be entertained, and delighted.”

Join us next year for HFS Basketball in 2021!
