Chess has long been considered a way for children to increase their mental prowess, concentration, memory and analytical skills. All of these traits are needed for academic excellence. Games and interactive strategies appeal directly to the experiential mind and provide a powerful balanced approach to whole-brain learning.  They develop practical and creative intelligence and enhance school success.

Holy Family chess club is open to all 1st to 8th graders, and kindergarten students who have older siblings in the club.  From November to March, chess club meets one afternoon each week from 3:30 to 4:30.  Beginners are always welcome!

The chess club has its own school tournaments and members have the opportunity to play at larger tournaments in Tacoma and beyond.  If you have the time and interest, we welcome you to be a parent volunteer for chess club practices. A helpful website for learning or improving your game is
